National Day of Prayer May 7th

Join with believers across America on Thursday, May 5th,

at 7:00 p.m., for the NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER as we gather to pray for our country and cities on the steps of the Old First Church in Court Square across from Springfield City Hall.

Many pastors will be leading in prayer. Please come to this event and raise your prayers to God. If you’re unable to get downtown, please set aside time in your schedule to pray for our nation, community, and leaders.

The National Day of Prayer traces its roots back to 1775 when the Continental Congress designated time for prayer in forming a new nation. Abraham Lincoln called for such a day in 1863, and the day was officially established by law as an annual event by President Truman in 1952. The law was amended in 1988 and signed by President Ronald Reagan. It established the first Thursday of May each year to be a National Day of Prayer! The theme for 2015 is Lord, Hear Our Cry ~ ”Hear the cry and prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day.” 1 Kings 8:28.
